Can I keep a single sugar glider?

I am planning on getting a sugar glider in a few weeks but I only want one. I did alot of research and just was wondering if anyone just had one sugar glider that was happy? I plan on carrying him/her around in a pouch with me most of the day of course having a water bottle and food but I will mostly be home. I will also play with him/her at night. Also does the gender make a difference? Is a male better than a female? And if I get a male should I neuter him? Thank you in advance for the advice :)
