97 jeep grand cherokee cranks but won't start, no spark at the distibutor, it's a 6 cyl 4.0?

At an auction, it ran fine until some jerk messed it up to try to get it cheap, now it won't start, what did he do? A employee tried to get it to go, but said it has no spark at the distributor. I figure it can't be a major repair, but could be wrong? He also cut a hole in the radiator hose so it will leak, and switched plug wires so it ran rough, but now it only cranks. It sells tomorrow at auction.
