Black ops Split-Screen Offline.?

So I've been doing as much research as I can about offline split screen, bots and that. I know it is possible by changing the options in 'Edit Game Options' but I don't have that. I just got my ps3 and black ops yesterday. I have read that to play offline, I need to go online and update my game, once updated it allows you to have the 'Edit Game Options'. Which I plan to do, I'll bring it to my friends house and use their WIFI, I just need to know HOW to update it, some to confirm that this is right and if there is any other possible way to play offline split screen with bots ? :) I hope people can help, I was hoping to play Black ops on my Playstation 3 without internet,
