Best place for a 'New Yorker' to live in California?

Its extremely ghetto all around LA. I would highly suggest going to San Francisco. Very gay friendly and one of my friends just moved there and LOVES IT! She makes me jealous everyday, lol. I think LA is a good place to visit... NOT to live. I think you should visit SanFran and see what you think. :)
